Energy & Utility Skills Adopt Gencarda for Virtual Smartcard Implementation

Tuesday, 02 November 2021

Energy & Utility Skills have become the latest organisation to go virtual. From February 2022, they will be using Reference Point’s Gencarda Suite technology to implement virtual cards as a replacement for physical cards.

They have a significant number of physical cards currently in circulation across the UK – including their Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) CSCS Partner Card schemes and National Water Hygiene ‘blue card’ scheme.  Energy & Utility Skills will start by issuing virtual cards for new registrations from February 2022, and they will issue virtual cards for existing registrations during 2022. A physical smartcard can also be requested for individuals that need one.

Gencarda is Reference Point’s web-based smartcard management solution. It provides a powerful database that enables you to manage your organisation’s data with ease, combined with the ability to issue and manage both virtual and physical smartcards. Virtual smartcards are easily accessed via the Vircarda app, a high-security digital wallet.

Carole Bishop, Head of Registrations at Energy & Utility Skills, commented: “We’re pleased to announce the introduction of virtual cards, the next step in our ongoing programme of investment into the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR). Firstly, virtual cards are more convenient; no more carrying around lots of different plastic cards and no more lost cards. Secondly, it significantly reduces the plastic we, and our employers, are using in line with our sector-wide drive toward greater sustainability.”

Beric Davis, CEO of Reference Point, had this to say of the announcement: “We are delighted to be partnering with Energy & Utility Skills and supporting them in their mission to deliver a safe, skilled and sustainable workforce with the energy and utilities industries.”
